The next day Judge Bao went to the
imperial court to meet with the emperor. First he
clearly told him the details of the case and then
handed him his memorial. |
The emperor read the memorial. It was
about a tyrant by the name of Yu Qiji, who wronged
innocent subjects in countless ways. It was in his
case, that Judge Bao asked the emperor to make the
final decision. The emperor was livid. He quickly
grabbed a brush and gave his command to behead the
person, and then handed the memorial back to Judge Bao
and commanded him to immediately have that person
executed. |
After Judge Bao got the imperial edict,
he returned to his yamen and quietly filled in the
missing brush strokes in the name so that it'd say "Lu
Zhailang" again. |
Judge Bao's plan was that he'd invite Lu
Zhailang to his office for a few drinks. Clueless, Lu
strutted inside Judge Bao's yamen. |
As soon as he entered the yamen, he was
surprised to find Judge Bao with a stern look on his
face sitting in his judicial chair. He didn't even
rise to greet him. Lu Zhailang turned livid. He was
about to call him out, when Jude Bao slammed his desk
and gave the order to have him arrested. "Bao Zheng! How dare you go against your
superior!" |
The servants shouted as one and then
jumped Lu Zhailang, ripped off his official robes and
hat, and then chained him. |
Judge Bao hastily read the imperial
edict, and then ordered his servants to tie Lu
Zhailang and take him to the execution grounds to
carry out the sentence, all to the great satisfaction
of the people. Thus ended Judge Bao with a trick the
life of a lord who was rampaging, tyrannical, and
harmed the people. |
